We are thrilled to announce our 6th annual Old School Bluegrass Camp July 5-10, 2020! Our all-star instructors include The Slocan Ramblers, Kristine Schmitt, Shane Cook, Guy Donis, along with facilitators Joey Wright and Allison Brown. This will be the first camp at our new location in the Lanark Highlands region of Ontario. Jenny Whiteley (OSBC camp director) and Ivan Rosenberg (program director) are planning an exciting, fun-filled week!

The Slocan Ramblers

Each morning, you’ll take the same instrument class (max. 10 students per class): guitar, mandolin, fiddle, upright bass, bluegrass banjo, or clawhammer banjo. In the afternoons you’ll work on jamming with others: several student bands will be formed—each coached by an instructor. Student bands will jam, arrange songs, rehearse, gel as a group, and ultimately perform at the student concert! OSBC also offers afternoon electives, private lessons, vocal coaching, evening instructor concerts, late-night jams (including Ivan’s slow jam every night), delicious healthy food, great times, and friends for life!

New This Year – we are excited to announce tat our Vocal Performance Coach, Kristine Schmitt will be leading a series called Performance Lab, each day. These sessions are for all campers and will be fun and educational as well as inspiring. Although we are not offering a full “vocal class” at this year’s camp, Kristine will be available for one on one vocal coaching throughout camp.

As always, internationally renowned luthier Luke Mercier will be on staff to look after your instruments during camp. His services are included in your camp fee. Simple adjustments and advice, a few packs of strings and picks, too. We love Luke!

THIS JUST IN!

Thrilled to welcome the amazing Darryl Poulsen back to camp in 2020! Great performer, great teacher, great guy!

Ok Campers!

We are officially done confirming our absolutely stellar line up of instructors for your 2020 camp with this announcement:

On fiddle this year will be none other than…Shane Cook!

Shane is a multi-instrumentalist who has distinguished himself as a master of the Canadian old-time fiddle tradition. Shane is a three-time Canadian Open National Champion, a three-time Canadian Grand Masters Champion, and is the only foreign fiddler to win the US Grand National Championship.

Wow! We are so happy to announce that our bluegrass banjo instructor for 2020 is… Montreal’s own Guy Donis! We’ve been wanting to get this wonderful and internationally known player in for a while, and this is the year!

We are over the moon to share with you that Old School favourite and Slocan Rambler, Frank Evans will be teaching clawhammer banjo in 2020! Frank’s old time playing is recognized all over and he is truly one of the best!
