The Old School Bluegrass Camp is the brain child of Jenny Whiteley and Alysa Hawkins. The pair have been close friends for years and have collaborated on several successful ventures in the past.
The idea to run a music camp has been on Jenny’s mind for years, but she never found the perfect venue and situation. When Alysa and her family bought the South Marysburg School, the missing ingredients, (and a partner in the camp) suddenly appeared! The school was perfect: many instructional spaces, a gymnasium including a lighted stage, 8 acres of beautiful property… The partnership was perfect, too, both women excited to be launching a venture together again.
Both Jenny and Alysa will be on site all week running the catering and camp.
Jenny Whiteley is a musician, songwriter, promoter and two time Juno award winner. She is a former member of bluegrass band Heatrbreak Hill and founding member of High Lonesome Wednesdays at Toronto’s Sliver Dollar Room.
Alysa Hawkins is the owner and manager of South in Milford, a beautiful bed and breakfast situated in the renovated public school. She lives there with her husband and three children. Alysa has hosted multiple concerts and events at the school and has overseen the tremendous transformation from de-commissioned public school to modernly chic home with guests suites.
